Whats this all about you may ask!!??!??!!! Well what I will say at the moment is that I have a chance for a trip of a lifetime which is only four days after the Parish Walk takes place! Now knowing what I do now about the recovery from the entire walk last year and what it actually took out of me I would either 1. Not enjoy the trip or 2. Not be able to go due to health reasons. I enjoyed nearly every minute of the Parish and the bits I didn't I cant remember anyway, this is not the same for the aftermath, it was a slow recovery Post Parish!!!!! I could walk two days later and put on a very brave face at the awards night, I had blisters on top of blisters, I lost two of my toe nails, my feet and ankles swelled up to balloon like shapes, the insides of both of my thighs were red raw and sore. I physically felt a wreck and totally exhausted. These were all the bad things and you should prepare yourself for a degree of discomfort. Having said that I and hundreds of other people sign back up to put ourselves through it again the following year. Why because its an addiction!!! you can always look to beat the time you set or you can get to the next church along the course. Thats what makes Parish Walk day a fabulous occasion.
So my plans have changed, I will still be on the start line at the NSC and I will still be taking part just at the moment I'm not looking to complete the challenge this year, Its sad but there will be other Parish walks there wont be any of these lifetime trips that come along. I will also continue to train hard and put the miles in and I will continue to write and complete this blog (groans from some of you!!!)
Dont forget the Walk & Talk event at the Manx museum on Tues April 9th between 545-7pm. This will be full of information like last year and you will be able to hear from some of the professionals, its a great event so if you can get down its well worth a skeet.

The countdown is well and truly on for this years 100th Parish Walk and it seems to be in the press nearly daily over the past week. Its actually less than 2 1/2 months and just over 10 weeks, 75 days time we will be just started heading out from the NSC onto the TT Access road and beyond! That will be on us before we know it and my advice to anyone who is seriously looking at getting some distance in the event is that if you haven't done so already its time to hit the streets.
The Curtain raiser and great test to see if you have got the miles in your legs is also nearly upon us, its the Sara KILLEY memorial walk which is a test between Peel and Ramsey via Jurby, Bride and Andreas. This takes place on Sunday 21st April 2013 starting at 830am. Its 50km and like I say is an ideal warm up for the Parish. Im not sure of the entry cut off date but I presume its open at the moment and get your skates on to join.
My training last week consisted of 15 fast miles broken up into two walks, not as far as I would have liked but never the less they felt good. It was a nice change walking in the sunshine!!!!
More to follow soonly.
Keep those legs moving !!! and the below is apt due to today's news!
What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose.

Understand you don;t want to ruin your trip mate, but I think you can now use the Parish as a warm up for the Centurion on 3/4 August.....go on, you know you want to !!!!
ReplyDeleteEvening Ed! Long time no speak, I hope you are well and that your training is going well!! hmmmm I hadnt actually thought of that at all! maybe, maybe! you signed up??? :)
ReplyDeleteFraid so. Six weeks recovery should be enough...! Parish is still the main aim, but given that the 100 miler is on our doorstep I could't say no. There's plenty of spaces left! Training's going well thanks, blasted some good long miles over the last few weekends, feeling in good shape and am ready for the SK in a couple of weeks. Last year's foot injury is still knocking on the door but I can measure the recovery time in hours as opposed to days now so it shouldn't bother me....touch wood. Are you doing the SK?
ReplyDeleteSure am Ed!!! looking for the magic 6 hours if possible but anything under 6hr25 id be over the moon! I will have a serious think about the 100 but will see you in a couple of weeks!:)
