Ski Sunday!!!!!

This week showed three walks totalling 15 miles, I was due to get another 6 in but an opportunity to get out on my jet-ski arose and as it was the first time in nearly a year that I hadn't been out on it I jumped at the chance.  It was choppy going out from Ramsey but was great and it was even better that my ski started first time!!  Heading out from Ramsey towards Laxey we went round Maughold lighthouse and to be fair it was quite rough and hard going there, we eventually got to Corneaa Beach where we stopped for a drink and a breather!  We were heading off to Laxey to have a spin around the beach area however decided to head back to Ramsey to do the same thing due to the conditions.  It was still quite choppy around Ramsey and Port Lewaigue but not half as much as Maughold way.
I swapped skis at this point taking my friends out for a spin, one that is a lot faster than mine! for the first five minutes of being on it I took it easy, the power was awesome, I got a little bit too comfortable and decided to open the throttle, it all went well for the first ten seconds and then I hit a large wave on the right of the ski which catapulted me up and at that point I basically remember throwing the ski to right and diving into to water, this all happened in slow motion, when I came up from under the water I could see the ski travelling away from me, although the engine had been cut it was obviously travelling at a rate of knots!
I was just bobbing up and down in the water unable to get to the ski which was by this time heading towards Queens Pier.
I was joined a short while later by my friend who assisted me to retrieve his ski, I stayed on mine and shortly after we headed in, I wasn't injured however I have a stiff neck and legs this morning, but totally worth it, cant wait to get back out there!! maybe on a calmer day!!!!! (Fair weather skier and all!)

Back to the walking like I said I got out for three walks one with my brother which was a lovely evening walk on Friday around Sulby, pictured is the sun set which was just fabulous.

It makes a massive difference it being dry weather and a bonus that its been quite bright and sunny also.
Now only 109 Days 12 hours 31 minutes until the start of the Parish Walk, If your thinking about entering then do it, get it in and get your trainers on.  It will soon come round quickly and if your looking at getting all the way round you still have plenty of time to get your training and miles in but you need to start soon!!!

My brother and I also went to see the very helpful people at Up and Running last week to check our gaits and to purchase some new trainers.  I had two pairs, my oldest pair were only fit for the recycle bin whilst as my second pair are the ones I completed the Parish with and have some life left in them but probably wouldn't get me through a second time around the island!
I am due to pick them up this week, same style really Brooks Glycerin only in blue, pics to follow!!!!  It makes a massive difference wearing new trainers they feel so comfortable and stable, definitely worth buying new ones and getting them worn in well in time for the Parish.  Its not advertising for them but the guys at Up & Running are well worth going to speak with they definitely know what they are talking about as they are not just sales persons they actually do the sport!!

The week ahead for me is lined up for another course at work so wont be getting out as much as Id like however will be heading out a couple of times hopefully with my brother.  Good luck with all your walking this week and remember time to start focusing for the big event and start getting your kit ready that you are comfortable with.  Once you find something that is comfortable to wear then stick with it, don't change a winning combination.

  1. +1 to the comment about the importance of comfortable shoes. Just arrived back from 5 miles in my office shoes (left my trainers at home this morning) and it wasn't much fun!

+1 also to the comment about Up and Running: was really impressed with the service when we were over at Christmas.
